For FEMA help - DO THIS TODAY!

This posting is courtesy of Elizabeth Hill:

MIR Property Owners:

Your action is needed immediately.   You can greatly influence our chances of getting FEMA funding.   The President of the United States is coming to Washington State this Tuesday April 22nd to see what is going on in Oso.   Keep in mind what we heard from county and state officials who attended our MIR meeting yesterday - right now we have a 50/50 chance of getting FEMA funding.

We all need to do several things between this moment and Monday night.    Please do the following:

1.       Register for FEMA as an individual even if you don’t think you qualify, because we don’t know yet what will and what won’t qualify.  We have been told that we individually have to register.  All “upsliders” should be registered today or tomorrow if at all possible.  The property owners in the middle of  the slide, and even folks in MIR below the slide should register. Please be patient and do not give up - the website often "times out" with heavy use.

2) Get the word out to our Senators and Congresswoman who will meet with the President on Tuesday.

A sample messageis written below; feel free to add to it, but this is the core message:

“The Mt Index Community has been cut in half by a landslide.   The landslide is still moving and has destroyed our road trapping more than 100 full-time residents without access.   More than 10 homes have been red tagged.  Our area has been declared an emergency by Snohomish County, and the Governor in the same declaration that covered Oso.    The President’s declaration includes landslide(s) and was not just for Oso, as the heavy rains also impacted us.   We need help from FEMA.  We have been told that FEMA is trying to decide if they can help us.  Please do everything you can to get FEMA to provide us with the assistance we need for this disaster.  Thank you for your help.”

If you feel this message is too long, just “don’t forget to get FEMA to help Mt Index “ works too. J

Folks, please call these three powerful women, and if you  have computer access, also reach out to them at the relevant links below.   Even if you have computer access and prefer to contact them on line with the links below, please also call because the time is short.  The President will be here on Tuesday.

FEMA

I have not confirmed this yet, but I was told that Phil Killion already received a denial of his claim because FEMA determined his house was still able to be ocupied.

Today is the day that the President comes to town!

I got up a little early and sent email to Delbene, Cantwell, and Murray.  Thank you for the information.  I also registered on the FEMA web page.  Today is the day that the President comes to town!  So please send in your emails and register. Here is what I sent in:

I am a property owner in which is known as Mt Index Riversites on Deep Woods Road in Index, WA.  We are along the south fork of the Skykomish River.  I am a part time resident and I am concerned about public safety and unstable public utilities due to an ongoing mudslide that just keeps getting bigger.

This massive landslide began 12/18/2013. It has stopped sliding and slid again multiple times. A massive amount came down again on 3/26/14, closing the road. Over 300 land owners and residents are cutoff from their homes and property along with me and my family.  Eight homes have been completely destroyed.  Our area has been declared an emergency by Snohomish County, and the Governor in the same declaration that covered Oso.  The President’s declaration includes landslide(s) and was not just for Oso, as the heavy rains also impacted us.   We need to walk through our slide area every day, trying to get to and from our homes. There is only a single private road in and out of this neighborhood. The road is now 100% blocked by the slide.  We need funds to build a bridge to bypass the slide area and to safely rebuild our road.  It has been suggested that we would benefit from a device called a "spider" which is a geo-engineering tool that detects movement in a slide.  The landslide is still moving and has destroyed our road trapping more than 100 full-time residents without access.   More than 10 homes have been red tagged.  We need help from FEMA.  We have been told that FEMA is trying to decide if they can help us.

I am asking that you please include Index when you are telling the President about what you need, and for whom.   And to please do everything you can to get FEMA to provide us with the assistance we need for this disaster.  Thank you for your help.
