For FEMA help - DO THIS TODAY!
This posting is courtesy of Elizabeth Hill:
MIR Property Owners:
Your action is needed immediately. You can greatly influence our chances of getting FEMA funding. The President of the United States is coming to Washington State this Tuesday April 22nd to see what is going on in Oso. Keep in mind what we heard from county and state officials who attended our MIR meeting yesterday - right now we have a 50/50 chance of getting FEMA funding.
We all need to do several things between this moment and Monday night. Please do the following:
1. Register for FEMA as an individual even if you don’t think you qualify, because we don’t know yet what will and what won’t qualify. We have been told that we individually have to register. All “upsliders” should be registered today or tomorrow if at all possible. The property owners in the middle of the slide, and even folks in MIR below the slide should register. Please be patient and do not give up - the website often "times out" with heavy use.
2) Get the word out to our Senators and Congresswoman who will meet with the President on Tuesday.
A sample messageis written below; feel free to add to it, but this is the core message:
“The Mt Index Community has been cut in half by a landslide. The landslide is still moving and has destroyed our road trapping more than 100 full-time residents without access. More than 10 homes have been red tagged. Our area has been declared an emergency by Snohomish County, and the Governor in the same declaration that covered Oso. The President’s declaration includes landslide(s) and was not just for Oso, as the heavy rains also impacted us. We need help from FEMA. We have been told that FEMA is trying to decide if they can help us. Please do everything you can to get FEMA to provide us with the assistance we need for this disaster. Thank you for your help.”
If you feel this message is too long, just “don’t forget to get FEMA to help Mt Index “ works too. J
